Upscale Image, an independent browser-based image enhancement service, today announced the availability of its online workspace for AI image upscaling. The workspace, available as of October 2, 2026, enlarges JPG, PNG, and WebP images at 2x, 4x, 6x, or 8x output levels and can also accept images from a supported direct HTTPS URL. Processing takes place through the website, and no desktop software installation is required.
The workspace groups processing into modes that correspond to the type of source image. The standard mode is used for general photo enlargement, denoising, and detail enhancement. The portrait mode applies additional processing to facial details. A separate anime and illustration mode is intended for manga, line-based artwork, and digital illustrations, while face restoration and old-photo restoration modes address degraded faces, scratches, and missing details in scanned photographs.
Processing and Review
Several images can be placed in a single queue, and the same enlargement level can be applied across the set. Each processed image can be compared with its original in a side-by-side view before download. The service notes that results depend on the quality of the original file and that AI upscaling is intended to reduce pixelation and recover edges and textures more effectively than basic resizing.
The company publishes the model used by each mode on its About page. According to that page, standard upscaling uses Real-ESRGAN, portrait processing uses Real-ESRGAN with face enhancement, anime and illustration upscaling uses Real-ESRGAN Anime6B, face restoration uses CodeFormer, and old-photo repair uses FLUX Kontext Restore Image. The page states that Upscale Image is not affiliated with the developers of these third-party models and that it will be updated if the production model stack changes materially.
Availability and Access
As of October 2, 2026, all listed modes appear in the main Upscale Image workspace. Third-party infrastructure and model providers may process an image only as needed to deliver the requested feature, and the company states that it does not claim ownership of uploaded images. The service's terms prohibit illegal, infringing, abusive, sexually explicit, violent, hateful, and deceptive content, and current configuration details are shown on the website before processing begins.
