Farmington, Michigan — October 2026 — Novel Insights by Christina Turin LLC, a publisher based in Farmington, Michigan, has announced the release of a new edition of The Porcupine Man: Narcissism: Its Development & Consequences, & Parental Alienation by clinical and forensic psychologist Christine M. Turin, PhD. The paperback edition will be published on October 20, 2026. The book is a work of fiction that examines the development of narcissistic behavior, its effects on adult relationships and families, and the practice of parental alienation, drawing on the author's clinical experience in forensic and private practice settings.
The novel follows a character named Harrington Bentley Aho, who is raised in a small Minnesota town by a mother who teaches him that he is superior to others and owed their obedience. In adulthood, these patterns develop into manipulation, gaslighting, and emotional abuse in his relationships. After his marriage ends, he attempts to turn his children against their mother. The book traces the origins of these behaviors in childhood and their effects across the lifespan, including the impact on children and the process of recovery from this type of trauma.
Dr. Turin is a clinical and forensic psychologist with more than forty years of professional experience. She spent thirty years as a staff psychologist at Feliciana Forensic Facility, the Louisiana state hospital for mentally ill offenders, where she conducted evaluations for competency to stand trial, not guilty by reason of insanity, and sanity commissions. She has provided expert mitigation testimony in capital murder cases in Louisiana, including an evaluation of convicted serial killer Derrick Todd Lee.
Her additional professional experience includes work at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, service as State Coordinator for First Responder Support with Louisiana Spirit, the state recovery effort following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and work at The Springs of Recovery, a residential treatment program for adolescent boys with substance abuse and legal issues. Earlier in her career, she trained with Dr. Mark Schwartz of the Masters and Johnson Institute in the treatment of sexual dysfunction and maintained a private practice focused on survivors of sexual abuse. Her current practice addresses recovery from trauma related to parental alienation, adult child estrangement, and narcissistic abuse.
Dr. Turin earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She completed her internship in Middletown, Connecticut, at Whiting Forensic Institute and Connecticut Valley Hospital. The protagonist of The Porcupine Man is a composite drawn from cases encountered during her clinical career, and the book was written to illustrate how destructive childhood experiences can affect adult relationships and subsequent generations.
