Classbuk Conducts Live Session from Everest Base Camp
Classbuk, an online education platform founded in India, conducted a live interactive online session from Everest Base Camp, Nepal, at an approximate altitude of 5,364 metres (17,598 feet) above sea level on 25 May 2026. The session was subsequently recognized by the World Book of Records, London, as a world record for conducting a live online session from the highest altitude.
The session was conducted by Classbuk founders Amit Goel and Seema Goel, along with their daughters Shagun Goel and Akshara Goel, during their trek to Everest Base Camp.
The 50-minute session included 55 participants from multiple countries, including students, parents and teachers. Participants joined the session remotely while the Classbuk team conducted it from Everest Base Camp.
Session Focused on Education and Technology
The live session included experiences and practical information related to the Everest Base Camp trek, followed by an introductory discussion on Artificial Intelligence and the ethical use of AI.
The initiative was intended to demonstrate the use of online communication technology for conducting an interactive educational session from a location with limited conventional infrastructure.
According to Classbuk founder Amit Goel, the initiative also focused on the potential of remote education to provide teaching opportunities to educators who require greater flexibility in balancing professional and personal responsibilities.
Women's Empowerment and Flexible Teaching
The initiative also highlighted women's participation in technology-enabled education and flexible work opportunities. Classbuk co-founder Seema Goel, along with her daughters Shagun Goel and Akshara Goel, was part of the team that travelled to Everest Base Camp and conducted the live session.
Classbuk said the initiative was also intended to highlight how remote teaching can provide women with opportunities to participate in the workforce while managing family and personal responsibilities.
Through its online education model, Classbuk works with educators who conduct classes remotely for students in different locations. For women who may face limitations in pursuing conventional teaching roles because of location or family responsibilities, remote teaching can provide an alternative way to continue working as educators while maintaining greater flexibility.
Remote Teaching and Access to Education
Classbuk operates a network of educators who conduct classes remotely for students in different locations. The company provides live online classes across academic and extracurricular subjects.
The Everest Base Camp session was presented as an example of how online education can connect teachers and learners across geographical locations without requiring them to be physically present in the same classroom.
The company said its model is designed to provide students with access to educators from different locations while allowing teachers to conduct classes remotely.
