BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND — Cash For Unwanted Cars, a vehicle removal and recycling company based in Brendale, Queensland, has expanded its free car removal service to more than 250 suburbs across Brisbane and surrounding regions. The expanded network, in effect from September 2026, extends coverage to the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns and Mackay. The company said the expansion is intended to give vehicle owners in outer-metro and regional areas of Queensland access to a no-cost option for removing unwanted, damaged or non-running vehicles, without arranging a private sale or repairs.
The expansion comes as Australia continues to deal with a growing volume of end-of-life vehicles. According to a national industry report by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and the Motor Trades Association of Australia, around 850,000 vehicles reach the end of their life in Australia each year, generating an estimated 1.36 million tonnes of waste. The report found that while roughly 70 per cent of that material is currently recovered, a substantial share still goes to landfill, partly due to a fragmented dismantling industry and limited processing options in regional areas.
Under the expanded service, Queensland vehicle owners can request a quote for a car, van, truck, ute or 4WD regardless of condition, including vehicles that are unregistered or lack a current roadworthy certificate. Once a quote is accepted, the company arranges free towing, with pickup available within 30 minutes in some areas or at a scheduled time. Payment is made at the time of collection, in the form of cash, bank transfer or cheque, with amounts ranging up to $9,999 depending on the vehicle's make, model and condition.
The service also includes a buyback option for electric vehicles, covering models such as the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, Kia EV6 and BYD Atto 3. Handling electric vehicle batteries requires separate licensing and equipment, an area the Queensland government has flagged as a growing waste-management priority, having committed $45 million toward recycling projects for batteries and other end-of-life components as part of a broader target to recover 80 per cent of the state's waste by 2030.
"Expanding into more suburbs means more Queensland vehicle owners can access a straightforward removal process, regardless of location," said Michael Turner, Operations Manager at Cash For Unwanted Cars. "A large share of the vehicles we collect are unregistered or no longer roadworthy, so wider coverage reduces how far some owners previously had to arrange transport themselves."
Vehicles that are not resold are dismantled and recycled through an internal initiative the company calls the Go Green Project. The company said this process follows procedures set out by relevant regulatory authorities, and is aimed at reducing the number of vehicles it handles that end up in landfill.
